APAN-MM was created as Multimedia is one of the most important areas of research current being supported by High Bandwidth and Broadband networks. Its main objective is to support and encourage research and development of multimedia applications that support/need the usage of high bandwidth networks. The First Goal of the Multimedia Working Group is to formulate our target projects. These targets will be based on the expertise of the members and their research areas. Thus rather than create possible goals and not have anyone of interest work on them, APAN-MM would rather take the approach of working with the members and expanding on their expertise in the area of multimedia. The initial target areas are: Multimedia Conferencing System - lead by Dr. Sureswaran Ramadass, Virtual Surgery and MM content Dev - lead by Suhaimi Napis, Video Streaming VOD - lead by Hiroshi Mizushima. A new target is to develop a 3D Multimedia Conferencing System which is lead by Dr. Sureswaran Ramadass.

Milestones/Actions:

MCS (Multimedia Conferencing System) was developed by NRG, Malaysia under the supervision of Dr. Sureswaran Ramadass and currently used among APAN members. (Jan. 2000) - MCS (Multimedia Conferencing System) server is now running at Japan, and any APAN member can use it. Anyone wants to use it please send request to omar@nrg.cs.usm.my to create and account and help on using it. The server was used during Fukuoka APAN Meetings, and two invited speakers had given their presentation through MCS. Also an interview with a research officer carried on using it. (Feb. 2003) - An election was held after the Multimedia Session to elect new chairman for Multimedia Working Group. New chairman is Omar Abouabdalla and deputy chairman  is Markus Buchhorn. (Feb. 2003)  - New ideas for Multimedia Working Group like 3D multimedia conferencing system was discussed during Fukuoka APAN Meetings.(Feb.2003)
