Summary - 1. Opening The seventh APAN Committee Meeting was held in Tsukuba, Japan with participants from the following countries : Autralia 1 China 5 Indonesia 1 Japan 18 Korea 5 Malaysia 5 Singapore 5 Vietnam 3 USA 5 2. Secretariat Report by Yong-Jin Park - APAN annual membership fee was incomed. (fiscal year 1th Oct ~ 30th Sep) - MoU between APAN and APRU was signed. - APAN Bylaw will be finalized by Francis Lee. - Secretary changes from Eunjin Seo to Jaehyun Song. 3. Area/WG Reports Technology Area summarized by Shigeki Goto - IPv6 WG WG updated status of each country. Korea changes their XP and will provide IPv6 accessibility at APRICOT2000. - Network Storage & Content Distribution WG Network Storage WG and Cache WG were merged in "Network Storage & Content Distribution". Nabeshima and Francis Lee will be co-chairs. Storage SWG and Cache SWG. - Measurement WG Each area will send URL of measurement tools to Chair is requested. What is new measurement tools in next 1-2 years and when eliminate current measurement tools? The chair would collect the URL about the each area activities and add. - Multimedia WG Current target projects include distributed multimedia conferencing system, virutal human project, audio streaming, video streaming/VOD. Multimedia and Television WG were merged. Television SWG, Conferencing SWG and Streaming SWG. - Satellite WG New projects was proposed. SONET and CSTNET has very expensive satellite equips tech collaboration between domestic satellite and international satellite take plase meeting anywhere. - QoS WG Kazunori Konishi is new WG chair. Diffserv between Korea and Japan. Working for QBone testbed in Chicago area named EMERGE. Internet2 DOE QoS workshop lastweek in Huston. - Design & Security Mailing list stop their activity from this APAN meeting. User Community Area was summarized by Markus Buchhorn. - Agriculture WG New Co-chairs are Akira Mizushima and Natawidjaja. Many projects and many national working groups organised, as well as project-based Sub WGs. - BioInformatics WG New Co-chairs are Luo Jingchu and Tan Tin Wee. APBioNet collaboration. A-IMBN & FAOBMB. BioMirrors, BioBeowulf and eBioinformatics.com. - Digital Library WG Working on a template project, satellite data, imagery and video. - Education WG SG-HK production line training, robot control, videoconferencing, templates for web-based education. Many demonstrations. Collaboration with Manufacturing WG. - Manufacturing WG Several demonstration projects. Collaboration with Education WG. Planned: iGrid2000, AIT collaboration, APEC proposal, USM (MY). 4. Engineering Team/NOC by Kazunori Konishi - There were country reports from each member. - Each country should have a web page of the operation tools. - TransPAC Allocation Kitaji proposed the new allocation over TransPAC links. Linda will help the decision of the new allocation. - New Links planned TransPAC link via Hawaii is planned. KR - US link is planned. AI3's KU band is being installed. - APAN Weather Map should be drawn, and MRTG in each NOC can be accessed by NOC operators in other countries. - Mr.Kato will report in next APAN Beijing Meeting about IPv6 productor system. 5. APAN Document Set by Francis Lee - APAN document set was finalized. - Will keep in APAN homepage. - Check and send a comment to Francis during next two weeks. - APII report will attach APAN document set as Appendix. - Will make hard copy (200) and distribute to members. 6. APAN WG Review Pannel by Shigeki Goto Pannel recommanded WG chairs to more use mailing list and to add its Webpage 7. Election New APAN Secretariat, new WG chair and Co-chairs were introduced. 8.
