====================================================================== Meeting Memo of the ad hoc APAN meetings ====================================================================== Date: 10:00 - 16:30 November 12th, 1997 Place: KDD Otemachi Bldg. room 12-1 ------------------------------- Measurement SWG (10:00 - 12:30) ------------------------------- 1. Status Report 1.1 CRL - APII-TC (Technology Center, located in Kobe Japan) and CRL (Tokyo) will install and operate OC3mon and CflowD. - Purchase order of OC3mon (splitter, PC, ATM NIC) is in process. The delivery date is not fixed yet. 1.2 KT - OC3mon will be ready by the end of Mar., 1998. - CflowD/NetFlow will be ready by the end of Dec., 1997. - HP75000 is available for low level ATM tests. 1.3 KDD - OC3mon will be ready by the end of this year. - It will be installed at the UNI of KDD public ATM service. (At the first stage we have only one UNI.) 2. Discussion - The Measurement SWG will define items to monitor, investigate new monitoring tools and technology. APAN NOCs will conduct the actual daily monitoring, traffic analysis, report publishing. - A baseline document is needed to define what items should be monitored/measured by NOCs and what tools are available. Mr. S.E. Kim/KT kindly volunteered to draft such a document. - Measurement items should include link performance (using CflowD) latency (using ping?) - Since APAN adopts public ATM service, we need some nominal specs such as cell transfer delay. Fujinaga will inquire them from KDD. - Besides PC for OC3mon we will need another PC/WS for data analysis and web publishing. - Software for OC3mon data analysis and web publishing needs further investigation. "OC3MON: Flexible, Affordable, High-Performance Statistics Collection" (http://www.isoc.org/isoc/whatis/ conferences/inet/97/proceedings/F1/F1_2.HTM) may be a good starting point. ---------------------------------- Network Design SWG (13:30 - 15:00) ---------------------------------- 1. Network configuration - Updated configuration since Singapore meeting was examined. - Korea has no plan to have link to HKUST/CN. - New figure will be included in the Network Design Memo. 2. Discussion on Seoul/Tokyo XPs - ATM switches and router at the Seoul XP are under control of KTNR (APAN Seoul NOC). - Cache, MBone and other servers at the Seoul XP, including equipment selection, installation and operation, are under control of corresponding APAN-KR SWGs. - ATM switch at the Tokyo XP is mostly under control of APAN Tokyo NOC, but on occasional events CRL will make privileged use of it for APII applications. - Router at the Tokyo XP is under control of APAN Tokyo NOC. - A detailed physical configuration of the Tokyo XP was drafted by Mr. Kato/WIDE and will be in Network Design Memo. 3. Network Design Memo - Current version (0.5) is quite outdated. - Fujinaga/KDD will revise the document by the END OF THIS MONTH (1997/11). Mr. SB Kim/KT will help with the description of Korea side. --------------------------- NOC meeting (15:10 - 16:30) --------------------------- 1. Seoul NOC Mr. S.B. Kim presented the role, status, activity and action plans of APAN Seoul NOC. 2. Collaboration of APAN NOCs Fujinaga/KDD presented a document which Mr. Konishi/KDD presented at the Internet2 meeting. 3. Discussion - Some ATM switches, including FORE ASX, can not handle multiple PVPs appropriately. As for ASX, you can set up only one set of traffic shaping parameters PER PHYSICAL PORT. This may cause serious problems since three PVPs (to Korea, Singapore and the US) will be multiplexed into a single UNI at the Tokyo XP. Hardware/software upgrade will be available in December 1997 and CRL will apply this upgrade. - To estimate the leading time necessary for on-demand PVC establishment, APAN NOCs will propose to the Resource Allocation Sub Committee a sample "application form" to identify what information is needed to prepare a PVC. (Editor's note: preliminary version is already in Network Design Memo version 0.5) - Currently, NOC's service is NOT 24H/7D basis. However some mechanism is needed for end users to report problems they find, such as "24 hour Hot Line". - Detailed list of contacts which includes postal address and tel/fax/pager numbers should be prepared. (for NOC internal use) - APAN-JP obtained its AS number of 7660. (Just after the meeting) - Since second level networks (APAN-KR, APAN-JP, NUS, ACSys, ...) will obtain their own AS numbers, they will also obtain IP address space individually. 4. Action/Discussion Items - Network Design Memo version 0.6 (Fujinaga/Kim) - List of contacts (Fujinaga) - Obtainment of IP address space and AS number. - Multiple PVP issues on some ATM switches - NMS for ASX1000 at Tokyo (Kitamura) - Problem report receiving scheme - sample PVC application form (Fujinaga) - Hosts for common internet servers such as DNS/mail/web/news. ------------ Participants ------------ Mr. Chae KT tichae@tnrl.kotel.co.kr Mr. Kim, SE KT sekim@noha.kotel.co.kr Mr. Kim, SB KT ksb@tnrl.kotel.co.kr Prof. Goto Waseda U. goto@info.waseda.ac.jp Mr. Harada JST kharada@tokyo.jst.go.jp Mr. Hattori MAFFIN hat@cc.affrc.go.jp Mr. Isobe CRL isobe@crl.go.jp Mr. Kato U.
