TEIN2 - open for collaboration
Presenter: David West, Project Manager, DANTE
Abstract:
This talk will provide an update of the TEIN2 network which was announced to the APAN user community at the 21st APAN in Tokyo. Some of the first collaborative applications using TEIN2 will be described, together with the promotional activity to promote further intra-Asian and inter-regional collaboration. The work now underway to maintain the network and the part the APAN community can play will also be briefly addressed.
2. Title:
Design of the new TWAREN
Presenter: C. Eugene Yeh, Deputy Director, National Center for High-performance Computing, Hsinchu Science Park, Taiwan
Abstract:Taiwan Advanced Research and Education Network (TWAREN) has been operated for more than two and a half years. It is the only NREN serving research and educational communities in Taiwan. Due to the demands, TWAREN needs to provision separate “logic networks” for different user communities. Currently there are 2 physical networks, one with IP-router based, the other optical-lightpath based.
A new TWAREN has been designed, and will be established by the end of 2006. In this talk, the requirements and design considerations (such as cost, provision of logic networks and VPN’s, service provision at different layers, performance, flexibility, fault tolerance, protection, people skills) of the new TWAREN will be presented. Also covered are the current and future architectures of the new TWAREN.
3. Title:
Collaboration to Support Global Connectivity for Astronomy
Presenter: David Lassner, Chief Information Officer University of Hawaii
Abstract: This presentation will describe the activities undertaken with
support from Australia, Canada and the U.S. to provide 10Gbps
connectivity to the "Big Island" of Hawaii, site of the Mauna Kea
Observatories. Mauna Kea is home to 13 telescopes that are owned and
operated by 11 different countries and includes the largest
collection of optical telescopes in the world. The network
connection, provided via SX TransPORT and Pacific Wave, is designed
to support both shared IP services and assignable GbE lightpaths.
4. Title:
Update and New Initiatives of CERNET/CERNET2
Presenter: Xing Li, Deputy Director, CERNET
Abstract:
This presentation will provide update of
CERNET/CERNET2, including its current topology,
routing policy and management systems. The new
initiatives in the networking and application
areas will also be addressed for the international
collaborations.
5. Title:
JGN2 activities update
Presenter:Asako Toyoda, Director, Testbed Management Division,
National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), Japan
6. Title:
The Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU)
Presenter: : Lawrence Loh, Secretary General, APRU
Vice President, National University of Singapore
7. Title:
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Network (APEC EINet): Using the Access Grid to Combat Emerging Infections
Presenter: Louis Fox
Abstract:Both the pace and geographic range of emerging and re-emerging infections
are increasing in the Pacific Rim. APEC EINet applies advanced networking
communications technologies to facilitate communication and partnering
among leading research universities, governments, and other advanced
networking entities within APEC economies. By facilitating cooperation
between public health sectors of the member economies, and integrating
existing systems of computing and communication into this collaboration,
the entire Asia Pacific region can reduce the biological and economic
threat posed by emerging infections.
This talk will provide and overview of EINet and suggest opportunities
for joining and participating in this network.
