Summary * MoU will be revised after the grant. * Preparations for the global collaborations were reported & discussed. - APAN Document Set will be edited. - Project relations between APII and APAN were discussed. - Procedure of resource allocation was revised. - User support for demonstration as well as end users was agreed. * Member/Liaison/Meeting reports were made. * Measurement WG should prepare for CCIRN WG meeting. * Future meetings were listed. 1. Opening The Fourth APAN Committee Meeting was held in Seoul, Korea with participants from the following countries; Australia 2 Canada 1 Japan 16 Korea 6 Malaysia 1 Philippines 1 Singapore 4 Thailand 1 USA 2 See Appendix A for the participant list. 2. Secretariat Reports were made by K. Konishi, APAN Secretariat Director : - New Committee Members : Hiromasa Kaneko(JST) - MoU to be renewed after the grant(in September?) - APAN-JP&KR¡¯s representatives will sign up MoU. - IP address/Prefix of APAN Authorized Institutions will be collected with the help of NOC. - APII projects will be proposed based on the project relations between TransPAC and APII - Applicant should send the draft to apan-sec@apan.net by July 11(Sat.) - The secretariat will submit the applications to Allocation WG by July 27 (Mon). 3. WG/Mailing List setup procedure Each WG/Mailing List was setup by each Area director. NOC Report - Link updates were reported. - Design & Operation Memo has been discussed. - Annual report will be edited by IU with the help of Secretariat/NOC teams. - Collaboration tools commonly used should be decided by NOC. - Design & Operation Memo including diagrams will be made public on the Web of Tokyo NOC. 5. Member Report * Australia by M. Buchhorn and Robin Stanton : - Advanced research projects will be carried out over AARNet. - Australia will join the collaborated projects such as APBionet, APTelemedicine. * Japan by S. Goto : - Next APAN Meeting will be held at Osaka University 1999.2.18-21 * Korea by K. Chon : - Dacom will be connected SG-XP in 2Mbps. - Pubnet link to USA will be increased to 45Mbps. * Singapore by Francis Lee : - SingAREN has been recently re-organized and repositioned as a national high-speed network platform to support R&D and advance technology development in Singapore. - SingAREN is currently connected to STAR TAP(USA) with a 14 Mbps link and to Japan with a 2 Mbps link. 6. Allocation Committee Report - The members list of subcommittee was revised. - Procedure of resource allocation was revised and each contact point was confirmed. - Available links of APAN and allocation status of APBionet were reported by Allocation Committee secretariat - ID number should be assigned for each application 7. User Service Ad hoc Meeting Report - Hiromasa Kaneko, new tentative chair of the ad hoc meeting, introduced each function of "NOC", "Network Information", and "User Support". - He also argued that these functions could be coverd by APAN existing organizations' activities, such as "APAN-sec", "APAN committee","NOC", and "Allocation Committee". - But it was agreed that "Consulting", "Q&A", "Training", and "Demonstration" should be included to support end users and entry level users in user support functions. - "User guide" or "User Manual" would be also prepared for end users. - Primary contact points would be set up in each country of APAN members. 8. Liaison Report (1) TransPAC by Doug Pearson - NSF grant is not finalized yet. - Goal is to establish IP services for the demonstrations in the sign-up ceremony. - MoU with JST is being discussed. This MoU is made for the cooperation between IU and JST for connecting vBNS - Monthly Report to NSF will be edited by IU, based on the statistics by NOC team. - Annual Report to NSF must include a short report from each project. (2) Canarie by John Sherwoon - Grant for Optical Network will be announced in September/October. 9. APAN Document Set by Francis Lee "Table of Content" of APAN Document made by Francis Lee and agreed by document committee members. 10. Meeting Report (1) Internet2 Meeting Report by K.Konishi - Infrastructure project "Abilene" was explained. (2) GIBN Meeting Report by Kilnam Chon - Point to point projects were stressed. (3) APRU Meeting Report by Kilnam Chon - VOD demonstration was conducted over APII links. - MoU with Internet2 was discussed. 11. Roaming Service Akira Mizushima explained his proposal to set up roaming services within APAN. Consensus among the participants were that we don't really have to work on this as the service is already being provided by commercial providers. 13. Associate Membership by Kilnam Chon Countries like Malaysia, Philippines may join APAN as associate members as APAN MoU states only link owners can be full members. Interested international organization may write a letter of intent to the APAN Committee to be a liasion member.
