Security WG is established with the objectives of:

-         Prepare policies and guidelines for the security architecture for APAN Organization.

-         To raise the security awareness and knowledge within APAN community, and

-         To cooperate with other international security efforts to raise security awareness, capabilities and interoperation globally.

-         To achieve the objectives the working group will conduct bi-annual Joint sessions/ Workshops/Tutorials and WG meetings during APAN meetings.   (Potentially with NOC and Measurement WG ).

Security architecture includes protection of the physical, intellectual, and electronic assets of the APAN, including its security policies, network access controls, virus protection, network administration and transaction security.

The security architecture must address issues relating to authentication, authorization, confidentiality, data integrity non-repudiation, and isolation.

2003.08 Busan meeting

-         Discussion on formation of APAN BoF, chairman election

-         Half-Day Tutorial on Security Policy & Audit

-        Setup new miling list: security@apan.net (Initial members that were present at the BoF meeting in Busan, KR)

-        Set up Home page for the group

 

2004.01 APAN Honolulu meeting

 

-        Discussion with NOC staff and make recommendations on the necessary steps to monitor and make the needed changes to increase APAN net security (Honolulu Meeting)

-        Regular APAN Security BoF meeting, discussing an initiative to form a Working Group

-        Workshop on Network Security  (presenters: 1 KR, 1 MY, 1 NED, 1 APAN Secr.)

-        Proposal to conduct Tutorial on Honey-net, in the 18th APAN meeting in Cairns 2004.7

 

2004.2 APRICOT Confernce

 

-        Three members of the group (Dr.Sureswaran, Saravanan, and Rahmat) give workshops/tutorial on Security Policy/Audit.

-        Proposal to set up Honey-net project within APAN community, once the working group is formed

-        Presentation/Discussion on Honeypot research (such ashacking tactics, motives, trend, incidents, statistics, counter measures, etc, and will be conducted twice a year during APAN Meeting)
