CONTENTS

08.00 –09.00

  • Discussion focused on topics and infrastructure requirements for the next APAN meeting in New Zealand

Discussion

Group discussion and interested areas

Chair provided an opportunity for the members to discuss the interested areas related to:

  • Interest in demonstrating live e-Science applications in the areas of Genomics, Human Interface Technology, Agriculture/Horticulture, Weather/Climate, etc between participating institutions.

  • Partner with the HDTV working group to provide high definition conferencing infrastructure for demonstrations which could be shared with the other APAN working groups.  The facility would include a small SAGE Optiportal for demonstrations that fit within the bandwidth budget nationally (KAREN) and internationally.  University of Washington will provide equipment specifications and software.  The facility could include support for other
video conferencing services (H.323, AccessGrid, UltraGrid).  Consensus that using workstation virtualization for OS, will support minimal equipment for the facility.

Noted

Jim DeRoest will start email conversation on the e-Science working
group list regarding demonstration applications.  Donald Clark will assist as focal point for New Zealand.  Initial deliverable will be the creation of a list of possible topics, equipment requirements and contacts.

Interested issue

Interest in partnering with other APAN working groups for demonstrations.

Noted

Jim DeRoest will also contact representatives from PRAGMA and CineGrid regarding additional opportunities for e-Science grid application and super high definition video demonstrations.

Suggestion

It was suggested that the e-Science working group consider creation of discipline specific sub-groups, specifically Genomics and Climate.

The meeting closed at 09:00 am
