9. eScience Committee report by Chris Elvidge.
- Formed an ad hoc committee to conduct series of workshops in Busan, Honolulu and Cairns.
  The tasks of the adhoc committee has been completed.
- 3 eSomething (eScience, eCulture,eHealth) were held in Cairns
- eScience Broad agreed to establish eScience WG with draft charter and
  would elect new chair and co-chair in Bangkok meeting.
  Which area should the potential wg belong to is yet to be clarified.

10. Grid Committee report by Putchong Uthayopas
- 3 talks at this meeting
- Grid position paper was published
- Proposed a new Grid Activities committee to coordinate groups in grid activities in APAN.
- The draft charter was approved by the grid committee members; however the ongoing concern is
  how to organize the new committee (whether to merge grid wg and the adhoc grid comm
  or remain the grid wg under tech area). No resolution.

11. Fellowship Committee report by An Jie.
- 30 out of 36 awarded fellows attend the meeting physically.
- Surplus: USD 7,305
- For Bangkok meeting, AP*Retreat sec will donate USD5,000 and the fellowship
  committee will seek for more contributions in order to support more fellows.
- The issue raised here was WHEN (Bangkok or Taipei) to hold next Network Research Workshop.
  The chair asked for comments from the coucil, and it would be decided after meeting.

12. NOC Report by Kazunori Konishi
- Tasks of NOC include planning & deployment, technical support and collaborations & information exchange
- Consider HOPI infrastructure: JP-US links with L2 & L3 infrastructure
- Observatory to assist researchers
- NOC should collaborate with eScience researchers
- VLBI projects are generating high bandwidth bursty traffic
- The report also reviewed the activities in Cairns

13. IPv6 Task Force report by Yan Ma
- The report reviewed the tasks have been done by 6Task Force
  including 'Setup a working team, NOC, WG, website and mailing list,
  Develop native IPv6 Gigabit network in AP region-6GN, Connect to other regions and others'
- Panel discussion on ¡°The transition strategy of IPv4 to IPv6¡±
  to arouse attention and share experiences.
- Future plan: Infrastructure & activities stressed in Cairns meeting;
               Bangkok meeting to consider Middleware, applications, deployment

14. Network Technology Area report by Francis Lee
- reviewed the activities of 3 wg and 3 bof under this area
- SIP developed the charter and the SIP H323 WG was agreed to be formed with
  Stephen as the chair and Q. Wu as co-chair. The new wg was suggested to put under application tech area.
- Lambda would remain as a BoF as the members need further discussion.
- Measurement wg elect new chairs (Masaka Hirabaru & JaeHwa Lee)
  * however Kitamura-san will continue chairing the wg as interim until
    the formal acknowledgement of the new elected chairs.
- Dr. Sures was elected as area director for the next two years.

15. NR report by S Ninomiya
- Carried out 10 session in Cairns meeting
- Director & WG Chairs to be finalized in next Bangkok meeting while present members to serve as interim
- Planning several workshops and session for next Bangkok meeting

16. Application Technology Area report by Y Kitamura
- Prof. Okamura to be chair for Area Director. However it's to be ratified by members
   as only 5 participants at meeting.
- Education wg: chair- Anjie.
  Reformation is ongoing which is to be resolved in Bangkok.
- review the activities of Grid and HDTV wg in Cairns meeting
  Some concerns of Grid wg was reported by Grid committee
17. SEA Net Group report by Lawrence Wong
- Updates on TEIN2, CIREN, and country reports (MY, PH, SG, TH)
- Strongly support TEIN2 and CIREN
- Continue cooperation within region

- Carried out 2nd NRW with 51 papers submitted, 48 papers published and 16 presentations from
  9 countries/economies
- Some comments to note and to improve NRW in future
