2. Discussion of WG charter and future WG opportunities:

On August 25 Chris sent out a proposal to change the WG name from Earth Monitoring and Disaster Warning to Earth Observation.  Chris also drafted an updated WG charter, aligning the WG with the objectives of the recent Earth Observation Summit.  Shin-ichi provided suggested revisions on the charter and recommend that the group rename itself Earth Observation and Disaster Monitoring.  Shin-ichi and Chris listed a series of current and future earth observation satellite data streams which the WG should consider as part of the group’s future plans.  This includes NASA-EOS, NASDA ADEOS-2,
TRMM, NASA/NOAA NPP & NPOESS, NASDA/NASA GPM, and others.

4. Election of co-chairs and vice-chairs was deferred until the Natural Resources Area meeting on August 29.
5. Begin planning for new WG activities and Honolulu meeting.

• Current activities fall largely in the transfer and distribution of
  satellite data: data exhanges between Japan and Thailand, DMSP data transfers from NOAA-NGDC to MAFFIN and NUS-CRISP, TRMM data transfers from NASA-GSFC to NASDA, Quicksat data transfers from NASA-JPL to NASDA.

• It was suggested that the the WG members be surveyed to identify data access shortfalls that the WG may be able to fill.

•  The WG needs to develop a www site to post its charter, list the members, describe the projects & plans, plus provide links to projects and activities enabled by the WG activities. Byong-lyol Lee volunteered to set up such a web site along with the WMO sites he maintains IF the WG members provide content.
