Summary -Natural Resources Subarea have been created to cover Agriculture WG and Earth Monitoring WG Seishi Ninomiya was appointed to Chair of that Subarea and at the same time Deputy Chair of User Community Area. -Travel Support Committee was renamed Fellow Program Committee. -ViDeNet deployment is led by Francis Lee as a member of Engineering Team. -The group to initiate Industrial Membership in APAN has been formed. The members are Yong-Jin Park, Akira Mizushima, and Sureswaran Ramadass. -The next meetings will be held in 2001.2.1 ? 2 Honolulu 2001.8.20 ? 23 Penang 2002 Those countries which intend to hold are invited to apply by Jan 2001. 1. Opening The eighth APAN Committee Meeting was held in Beijin, China, with participants from the following countries: Australia China Japan Korea Malaysia Singapore Thailand USA . . . See Appendix A for the participant list. 2. Secretariat Report by Yong-Jin Park: -Participators of APAN Conference 2000, Beijin were totally 245 persons (140 from CN, 105 outside CN) -Current Financial Status in 1999 fiscal year(1999.10.1 - 2000.9.30): The income is $18,000, the expenditures is$13,780, and the balance is $4,220. -Membership Fee in 2000 fiscal year is the same as that in 1999. -APAN Bylaw is still under work. -Some WGs joined the demonstration of iGrid 2000 in July 2000, Yokohama -APAN/TransPAC/NLANR/Internet2 Techs Workshop will be held on 2001.1.28 ? 31 and APAN Meeting on 2001.2.1 ? 2 at University of Hawaii, Honolulu, organized by David Lassner. - On 2001.8.20-23,APAN Workshop/Meeting will be held at Penang, Malaysia, organized by Sureswaran Ramadass -APAN Secretary was changed from Jaehyun Song to SeongMi RYU. 3. Area/WG Report Technology Area by Shigeki Goto 6 WGs had meeting in Beijin. IPv6 WG It will hold Workshop with AI3 on 2000.10.17. Network Storage WG It will have a session in Hawaii Workshop. Measurement WG Mr Kitamura is on the program committee of PAM2001, which will be held in April, 2001, in Amsterdam. Multimedia WG It is preparing to set up videoconference system to relay APAN meeting in Hawaii. . Sureswaran Ramadass demonstrated the system. Satellite WG It will have Workshop with AI3 on 2000.10.17. QoS WG It will have a plan to have a session in Hawaii. User Community Area by Markus Buchhorn Agriculture WG One of co-chairs Akira Mizushima resigned due to job position change and Seishi Ninomiya was appointed to the co-chair. It collaborates with Earth Monitoring WG and Bio-Informatics through Bio-Mirror. Earth Monitoring WG It has a strong link with Agriculture WG and collaborates with US, JP, AU, and CEOS. Large satellite dataset is shared across APAN. Education WG Lots of collaboration has been made between SG, HK, and KR. Global Design and Manufacturing WG Cyber CAD was demonstrated at iGrid 2000. Collaboration has been made between SG, KR, JP, and HK. Grid WG Grid Computing Workshop will be held in first half of 2001 with TransPAC. -Natural Resources Subarea is created to cover very large and active Agriculture WG and Earth Monitoring WGs as one year term. The Subarea is chaired by Seishi Ninomiya who is also appointed to deputy chair of User Community Area. 4. NOC Report by Kazunori Konishi -Multicast protocol being used is moved from MDVRP to PIM.. -ViDeNet deployment is led by Francis Lee as a member of Engineering Team 5. Travel Support Report by Yong-Jin Park -31 persons were partial-supported in Beijin Meeting. (KR 15, MY 8, TH 1, VN 1, PH 1, ID 1, CN 2, JP 1, Iran 1). Special support for local participants in CN. Special support for Malaysian participants. 2 persons are full-supported. APAN expenditure: $4,750 APAN-JP donation: $12,000 - In Honolulu Workshop/Meeting, 40 persons are expected to be partial-supported. The flight fee support is further studied. -Travel Support Committee is renamed Fellow Program Committee 6. Liaison Report Transpac by James Williams James Willias is in charge of Transpac instead of Duog Peason. Transpac NSF Annual Report was made. HPIIS review will be held in 10.25 in San Diego. The next Transpac meeting will be held at I2 Meeting during 10.28- 29. Transpac meeting in Hawaii will be held on 2001.1.27. 7. Link Status Trans-Eurasia Link Plan by Jaemog Kim/MIC 45M link is connected between KR-EU in 2001. Trans-Pacific Link Extension by Kazunori Konishi Upgrade from 100M to 122M is under negociation. CN-US link is open in early 2001 9.Meeting Report Reports of CCIRN, I2, and NLANR/I2 were not made for lack of time. Refer to the homepages. 10.Future Meeting Schedule -APAN, 2001.2.1-2 Honolulu by Kazunori Konishi He is a program committee member of Joint Workshop from APAN. Draft program will be made by this Octorber. Joint Workshop Schedule 1.28 Tutorial 1.29 ? 31 Presentation AP specific subjects are considering as technical sessions such as National Networks, GigaPOP, Leading Technology (IPv6, Multilingual, DNS,¡¦), Submarine cable/Satellite. There will be GARA party. 1.27 Transpac meeting 1.30-31 MINC 1.31 APAN registration and welcome party 2.1 APAN Conference ~2.1 APAN WG 2.2 Area/ Committee Meeting -IWS 2001 will be held on 2001.2.21 ? 23 at National Center of Science, Tokyo, co-sponsored by NII and JSP. It covers Digital Library, Distance Learning, Bio-medical, Earth Monitoring, Security, etc. Some WGs in APAN joins. -APAN, 2001.8.20 - 23 Penang by Sureswaran Ramadass It will be prepared with reference to Beijin Meeting. -2002 APAN Meetings Those countries which intend to hold are invited to apply by Jan 2001. 11. Incorporation/Industry Member to APAN Kilnam Chon proposed to start discussion about industrial membership, holding evolution of networking from current APAN to commercialized APAN. The role to initiate this matter was given to Yong-Jin Park, Akira Mizushima, and Sureswaran Ramadass.
